Andrew is a life-long yachtsman who grew up boating on the lakes and coast of Maine. Whether he was exploring and fishing Casco Bay on his Sea Ox or water skiing behind the family bow-rider on Sebago Lake, Andrew’s summers revolved around the water. Like any teenage boy, one of the few things that got him off the water was food, and some of Andrew’s fondest summer memories came from listening to the craftsmen from Sabre Yachts exchange boat building stories as he waited with them in line for a sandwich at the general store in Raymond. “I can still smell the resin and see the glass fibers on their clothes”, says Andrew.

Andrew serves on the Board of Directors at RIBCRAFT, USA, a leading manufacturer of rigid inflatable boats. He is also the former President of the Corinthian Sailing Foundation, focusing on youth education and enrichment through sailing, and former Club Secretary and Counsel for the Corinthian Yacht Club in Marblehead, MA.

Curt jessup, cpyb

Curt grew up on Lake Michigan and spent summers on the shores of Lake Winnebago and Egg Harbor, Wisconsin. As a child, days were spent on sailboats, small skiffs, powerboats, and hydroplanes – anything that had to do with the water.

Curt says, “That first sighting of a 13’ Boston Whaler in 1965 made a lasting impression on me and boating became my number one passion.”

He decided to turn his passion into a vocation and started The Sporting Life/Orvis, one of the largest fly fishing outdoor specialty shops in the Northeast. He also bought a Sea Tow franchise but in 2017 he joined our team as a full-time broker.

Curt holds a USCG 100 Ton Masters License with radar and towing endorsements.

He’s owned over 20 boats so far in his lifetime including Boston Whalers, Laser, Parker, Jones Brothers, Action Craft, Zodia, HBI, and an assortment of tin boats, flats skiffs, and rescue boats. He also enjoys fly fishing, skiing, upland hunting and is a former private pilot.

His life and work experiences provide a wealth of information he can share with our customers and he looks forward to turning a passion – his love of boats and the water – into a career.

Dan Schermerhorn, CPYB

Managing partner

Dan comes from a multigenerational family of boaters. He spent his childhood on Cape Cod learning boat handling and marine navigation from his father and grandfather. In his teens, he started taking classes at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Education Department in Seamanship, Marlinspike and basic Diesel Mechanics. These early skills led to him becoming a deckhand at Hy-Line Cruises based in Hyannis, MA. After high school he pursued his passion for the sea and attended his grandfather’s alma mater, Mass Maritime.

Dan then learned the ropes of boat sales and service at a small marina on Cape Cod. From there he joined Kraft Power Corporation in Woburn, Mass in the Industrial Engine and Parts Sales area. He later became the Kohler Marine sales and support person for New England and the Hamilton Jet Northeast and Mid-Atlantic product manager. In these positions, Dan worked with many boat builders including Sabre and Back Cove Yachts.

Dan is an asset to the Boston Yacht team, bringing his knowledge of vessel systems and builds from both the commercial and recreational boating market. Dan likes sharing what he knows with his clients to find them the best boat to fit their needs, or the perfect buyer if they are selling.

Joyce Richards, CPYB

With over 25 years invested in her professional career as a Broker, Joyce brings a wealth of knowledge about the process from start to finish.

She has been power boating and sailing since she was a child. Her Dad was one of the founding fathers of the Wild Harbor Yacht Club (WHYC) in North Falmouth in 1950. Growing up it was not unusual for the Richards family to own up to 5 power and sail boats at one time, so no wonder she has such an affection for and vast knowledge of boating.

When asked why he is a yacht broker, Scott says: “I meet great people who love boating, fishing and the sea – what better job is there than that for me? Working to find the right boat for people never gets old. The enthusiasm when they take delivery is always amazing. Best is when I get to see them jump on board with their family or friends and take off from the dock for the first time. Finding the right boat for people; that plus my love of boating and the water is why I’m still selling boats.”

A lifelong boater, Scott was raised in Manchester-by-the-Sea and boating before he could walk. He was at the helm of his own boat by the age of eleven exploring the waters and harbors of the North Shore; as he grew older he ventured all along the eastern seaboard including his favorite trips from Boston through the inter coastal and ocean to Florida. He became Certified in Basic Boating and received his 100 Ton Captains License.

Oz Mendes

Oz brings a blend of technical expertise and lifelong passion for the water to his role as a yacht broker with Boston Yacht Sales. Raised in East Boston, Oz’s connection to boating began at an early age through a local sailing program, where time on the water evolved from recreation into a long-term vocation.

Oz went on to build a career deeply rooted in the technical side of yachting, becoming an ABYC-certified Electrical Specialist and founding Create Marine, a marine systems and electronics company known for its work on a wide range of vessels—from performance center consoles to high-end cruisers and motoryachts. That hands-on background provides Oz with a practical, systems-level understanding of how yachts are built, equipped, and used in the real world.

This experience allows Oz to guide clients through the buying and selling process with clarity and confidence, helping them evaluate layouts, onboard systems, and long-term ownership considerations with a highly informed perspective. His approach is focused on aligning the right yacht with the right mission—whether cruising, entertaining, or resale positioning.

Oz is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish, allowing him to communicate effectively with a broader range of buyers and sellers and support transactions with greater clarity.

As a former yacht captain with an extensive background in both motor and sailing yachts, Scott Akerman has navigated waters throughout Europe, the Caribbean, Mexico, the Bahamas, Canada, and the United States on both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. His experience includes offshore racing, international yacht deliveries, and working alongside premier yacht builders, including Oyster, Zeelander, Back Cove, and Sabre Yachts.

Throughout his maritime career, Akerman has developed a reputation for technical knowledge, operational expertise, and a deep understanding of yacht performance and seaworthiness. His transition into yacht brokerage allows clients to benefit from a captain’s perspective during every stage of the buying and selling process.
